There is this song that I heard for the first time when I attended the Christian Medical Students Conference in Davao City last May 2006. It was so beautiful - the rhythm, the poetry, the song as a whole. But more than the literary masterpiece, what struck me most is the message of the song. The song tells of the conflict between man and God, and how God made the way to resolve that conflict. You see, every human has sinned - yes, even the most pious person you know has sinned. On the other hand, God in all His splendor is so holy, that even in the incident of the burning bush and Moses, God commanded Moses to remove his sandals because the ground is holy ground. And so when sin is placed vis a vis with God's holy grandeur, an obvious demarcation is seen. It's like black and white placed side by side.
But why did God make the initiative to reach man and made salvation readily available to everyone? Despite God's wrath on sins, why did He choose to love men and women? I believe and confess that it's grace - God's favor which we do not deserve. That is God's love. Despite us sinning over and over again, God would rather love us over and over again. That is mercy. All of us deserve to be condemned to hell, and how dare we say our God is an unfair God just because someone does not believe in Him and thus endangered to spend in a place of eternal fire while others would enjoy life with Him in paradise? That is mercy I say because God chose to make a way for us to receive salvation. And that is the way of God. Why? I really do not fully know why, but one thing I'm sure of: God will always desire for every man to come to repentance. God has made the initiative. What we have to do is to firmly believe in our hearts that Jesus is our Savior, and that from that day we confess Him as our Savior, we declare that we follow Him always, to make Him the Lord of our lives. Upon this decision will follow many costs of deciding to follow Jesus - mockery, persecution, humiliation, etc. But fret not, "all things work for good to those who do His will, to those who love the Lord."
And so, here is the song entitled, WHO AM I
Who am I
That the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I
That the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart
Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am..
I am Yours
Who am I
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again
Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am..
I am Yours
Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear
I am Yours
I am Yours
