It's Medicine Week...
... and I don't even feel it!
For everybody's info, September 11-15 is supposedly our Medicine Week in St. Luke's College of Medicine. But because the present administration does not support 'such' activity, they cut down the celebration to September 13-15.
Yes, MEDWEEK '06 started this morning (or yesterday already since it's 12:03 Am of September 14), but the school's atmosphere masks the celebration. Well, as I said earlier, the present administration does not support fully Medicine Week. Why? Because it's not academical!!!
There are a few reasons why I'm so dismayed and angered with their reason. Here are some:
1. The school must be an avenue for wholistic learning. It doesn't mean that because we are now in Med school, we do not have the privilege to spend some leisure time. They, as administrators, must fully know that a healthy education doesn't just involve the cognitive part but also the social, emotional, and physical part of it. Why would they not support this activity which provides and avenue for the students to hone their skills and talents, to find a place for more interaction with other year levels, and a lot more?!?
2. They changed MedWeek a lot (virtually almost everything!). Last year, we celebrated it the whole week. Now, it's down to three meager days. Last year, every activity was supported, not just financially but also with the administrations encouragements and presence. Now, not just most activities were disapporved, most of the budget of those approved were cut down to almost 40% of the original proposal. Last year, we had a very nice culminating activity. Now, the future is bleak.
3. When you enter the college building, you will hardly notice that the school is celebrating Medicine Week... if not for the handful of posters that were on bulletin boards that could be hardly seen. Last year, there was a concensus about not giving exams or quizzes during MedWeek, no submission of papers or reports, etc. This year and for our class alone, we will have a quiz on Friday about Anti-Hypertensive Drugs, and a Case Report for Clinical Pathology! The third year on Wednesday had their Preventive and Community Medicine Report Proposal Defense! And what more shall we expect???
Really, it just frustates me when I think about our non-cooperative administration. As one of our teachers said, 'KJ sila!'.
Well guys, here is our Medicine Week:
Wednesday (September 13)
Opening Ceremony and Mass (c/o Days With The Lord)

Thursday (September 14)

This is supposed to be a worry-free week!!!
